8 Not So Average Friendsgiving Dishes

Let’s face it. Turkey and stuffing are beyond overrated. Most of us, especially picky eaters, dread this time of the year and have a hard time finding appetizing options. We rounded up our favorite dishes to make the Thanksgiving feast that much better.

1. Sweet Potato Casserole with Marshmallow

This dish is for the ultimate sweet tooth, blending both a fan-favorite vegetable and a gooey sweet treat. Because bigger is always better, we recommend Jet-Puffed extra large marshmallows. After a spoon in, it will be hard to resist seconds and thirds.

2. Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin season is short, but if you do it right, short is enough. Make the dessert that friends and family will be talking about for days: Pumpkin Pie. This dish is living evidence that the best things are left classic. Plus, it will complement any Thanksgiving tablescape!

3. Roasted Vegetables

A good way to get some green into the mix without feeling guilty is a side of mixed vegetables. Brussel sprouts and carrots with a honey glaze tastes like the holiday. Salad is so overrated, and so is stuffing. This side dish will be the most popular one of all.

4. Cauliflower Stuffing

Because everyone’s beach vacation for winter break is right around the corner, there is no time for carbs and crap. Switch out traditional stuffing for a different kind of white: cauliflower. This dish, if done right, will make everything right.

5. Apple Pie

It is hard to name a dish more American than Apple Pie. Satisfying the sugar craving of every taste bud, this dish is a Thanksgiving staple. If feeling a little frisky, top a slice of this beauty with vanilla ice cream– you won’t regret it!

6. Butternut Squash Soup

It’s officially cold out (finally). What better way to warm up than a warm cup of butternut squash soup? Bowls will be refilled multiple times and everyone will be warm and cozy after a ladle in.

7. Balsamic Chicken

Because not all of us are turkey fans, balsamic chicken is a great way to get some protein while enjoying the fabulous feast. Add some peppers, onions and mushrooms to craft the ultimate dish.

8. Mashed Potatoes

It’s hard to think of a time when mashed potatoes have failed. Their white, fluffy nature is just too hard to resist. To know them is to love them and they will always remain consistently delicious. Garlic, butter and potatoes, oh my!
